WHAT’S OUT?? According to some top wedding planners, there are some things that have been “over used”, such as naming drinks, Boho-themed weddings, anything burlap, wood slices, long garlands running down the length of a table, gigantic wedding parties and large bridal bouquets. David Stark, of davidstarkdesign.com calls for a shift from the tradition of the bride’s family footing the entire bill for a wedding to a more modern approach, where couples and their families each contribute to the cost. Mindy Weiss, mindyweiss.com feels that pairing formal gowns and tuxes with cowboy boots and sneakers has had its day, and calls for other more unique ways to display your individuality. Other items which may be on the way out are flower crowns, food trucks, chalkboard signs and anything geode.
WHAT’S IN?? More color, less white. Elaborate entrances; arrive by helicopter? Motorcycle? Anything’s possible. For those on a budget, how about a stage curtain entrance? You can also arrive in a fog machine or confetti cannon. Garlands are still big as well as food stations and lawn games. Color palette of greys, creams and golds paired with glass and metallic are a new trend.
In addition to the traditional wedding cake, some couples are opting for doughnuts, cookies, candy and other goodies. Some bridal gowns are now available with removable skirts for a two-in-one dress.
